The Mets have used social media to reach the fans and it has been a success, especially when fans have an opportunity to connect with their favorite ball player.  As we all know technology is growing bigger and faster each year and with so many people on tablets and smartphones, everyone is connected at any time of the day. So utilizing of the various social media outlets, helps the team to not only embrace the fans, but also to bridge the gap and allow more fans to be a part of all the action.
