The Mets tweeted that Jeurys Familia will undergo surgery tomorrow to remove bone spurs and loose bodies in his right elbow. That’s not the news anybody was expecting, but we can only wish him a safe surgery and a quick recovery. Familia’s power arm was expected to anchor the back end of the Mets bullpen in 2013 and beyond, but we’ll see what happens from here.

There is no timetable for his return and we will update you on his status tomorrow. Familia had pitched 10.1 innings with the Mets this year to the tune of a 3.48 ERA. He was last seen with the MLB team on May 8th.
