Playing in front of the home-town fans, power hitting Mets first base prospect Dash Winningham won the BUSH’s MVP Award in the rain shortened South Atlantic League All Star Game.

Winningham came up in the first inning with two on and two out. He then ripped a two run double off Philadelphia Phillies prospect Nick Fanti. It should come as no surprise Winningham came through in that spot as he is currently third in the Sally League with 46 RBI.

Overall, Winningham was 1-2 with two RBI and a walk.

Winningham’s double would score fellow Firefly Michael Paez. The second baseman also started the game, and he was 1-3 with the run.

The two RBI double also put starter Merandy Gonzalez in line for the win. In his one scoreless inning of work, he allowed no base runners, and he recorded one strikeout.

Unfortunately, Gonzalez would not get the win as the South gave the lead right back.

The game would be tied entering the seventh inning with Adonis Uceta entering the game. He got in trouble allowing three singles loading the bases. However, he was able to get out of trouble striking out the side.

After the seventh inning was complete, the rain would force the  game to be called with the North and South All Star squads tied at 3-3.

On the season, Winningham is hitting .244/.294/.429 with 11 doubles, 11 triples, and 46 RBI. Hopefully, this All Star Game MVP performance will be the first step in a big second half for the slugger.
