Outside of an Ike Davis ejection that caused pitcher D.J. Mitchell to be slotted in to play right field, it was an easy win for the 51s on Saturday night on the heels of a strong performance from Jacob deGrom. DeGrom tossed seven strong innings, allowing just one earned run off three hits and a walk, while striking out four. He was in control for most of the evening, and never needed more than the two runs he was slotted in the first inning by Wilmer Flores.

Flores went deep with a man on in the first inning, and while Rylan Sandoval and Juan Centeno would add RBIs to the scoreboard later in the game, they were both just icing on the cake at that point. Sandoval would add his via a solo home run, by the way — his fourth of the year.

Greg Burke, Jack Leathersich, and Gonzalez Germen combined to finish off deGrom’s solid start without allowing another run.
