Lugo

The New York Mets optioned Brandon Nimmo and Seth Lugo while recalling Ty Kelly and Josh Edgin. Nimmo, (.250/.311/.304) almost in the deal for Jay Bruce has performed about as well as expected in his short stints in NY. Lugo pitched to a 3.18 in 11.1 (mostly low leverage) innings. Both players should be expected back in NY in September.

The players coming to NY are no strangers to fans; Kelly had been on the shuttle earlier in the season. He had a slash line of .342/.423/.457 in Vegas prior to his promotion. Edgin, making his first appearance in the major leagues since 2014, is working his way back from Tommy John Surgery. In Vegas, he had 31 strikeouts in 28.1 innings while facing more right handed batters than lefties.

It should be noted both players weren’t demoted, but caught in a numbers game. Kelly, as a switch hitter, will provide RH OF depth. (Wally really needs to pencil TJ Rivera into LF some more.) Edgin comes in and takes Antonio Bastardo’s place in the bullpen.

Ricky Knapp, was re-assigned to Binghamton after two starts in Vegas. Knapp, currently third in the FSL in ERA, has pitched in three levels this year. In his last (and only) start in Binghamton, he earned the victory pitching a complete game. He is coming off a rough start against the talented El Paso team where he gave up five runs in five innings. In his first AAA start he received a no decision while pitching seven solid innings.

The organization also promoted Luis Mateo to Vegas. The one time BA #4 Mets prospect is working his way back from injuries that have slowed his development. He has a 3.18 ERA in 49 innings this year as part of the Binghamton bullpen.

Taking his place in the Binghamton bullpen is left hander Paul Paez. Paez was 2-0 with a 1.00 ERA in 36 innings for St. Lucie. He is the fourth relief pitcher to be promoted to Binghamton from St. Lucie this season.

Brandon Brosher was sent back to Brooklyn from Columbia , he has seemingly stagnated as a prospect. Struggling with a .167 batting average and only one extra base hit in 38 plate appearances for the Fireflies.

Blake Taylor has been assigned to Kingsport, taking the place of the since traded Max Wotell. Taylor, the player to be named later in the Ike Davis trade. He is working his way back from Tommy John Surgery, and hopefully sometime with Royce Ring will get him back on track.
