Colorado Springs 6, Las Vegas 2

A costly error with two outs capped off a three-run seventh inning, which proved to be the difference in a Colorado Springs Sky Sox 6-2 victory over the Las Vegas 51s on Friday at Cashman Field. The 51s went without the benefit of a hit with RISP, as Jamie Hoffmann grounded out to bring in a run in the second and Andrew Brown lifted a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

The game was tied 2-2 before the game-changing inning. Tim Wheeler got things rolling for Colorado Springs with a double, which brought home Drew Carpenter to take a one-run lead. Then when two outs, Ryan Wheeler reached safely on a throwing error by second baseman Wilmer Flores. The miscue allowed Charlie Blackmon and Tim Wheeler to come around to score, giving the Sky Sox a 5-2 advantage. Colorado added another run in the top of the ninth, and the 51s were unable to mount a rally.

Drew Carpenter was the winning pitcher, going seven innings. He allowed two runs on five hits with three strikeouts. Sean Henn took the loss for the 51s. Matt Fox was effective over six innings for Las Vegas, allowing just two earned runs.

The two teams continue their series at 7:05 p.m. Saturday.
