Hudson Valley 6, Brooklyn 4

The Cyclones took the lead early in the game but the Renegades fought back to defeat Brooklyn, 6-4. Dawrin Frias made his first professional start since 2009, going 6.0 IP, giving up two runs on three hits and two strikeouts.

Brooklyn jumped on the board in the first inning, benefiting from poor defense by the Renegades. With one out Ismael Tijerina single to left and moved to second on a single by Gavin Cecchini, who extended his hit streak to 13 games. Tomas Nido then hit a grounder to second baseman Ariel Soriano who tossed the ball to shortstop Darryl George covering second, but George dropped the ball and all runners were safe. With one out and the bases loaded, James Roche hit a comebacker to pitcher Chris Kirsch who threw the ball away allowing both Tijerina and Cecchini to score, giving the Cyclones a 2-0 lead.

Dawrin Frias didn’t allow a hit until the fifth inning when Hudson Valley came back to tie the game. Tyler Young led the inning off with a double and Darryl George drove him in with a single and advanced to second on the throw home by Patrick Biondi. With one out and a man on second, Frias threw a wild pitch allowing George to move to third base. After a strikeout of Granden Goetzman for out number two, John Alexander hit a sac fly to center, tying the game at 2-2.

Kevin McGowan came in to start the seventh and Hudson Valley put up four runs in the inning to take its first lead of the game. Oscar Hernandez led the inning off with a single and then stole second base with Ty Young batting, who would eventually draw a walk during his at-bat. After a pop out for the first out, Goetzman singled to left but the ball was hit to hard for Hernandez to score from second. Alexander then tripled to deep right to score all three runs and make it a 5-2 game. Colton Plaia then committed a passed ball allowing Alexander to score from third and extend the Renegades lead to 6-2.

As the Cyclones have done all year, they responded with runs of their own to get themselves back in the game. With one out, Cecchini reached on an infield single and came home on a two out, two-run home run to left by James Roche to make it a 6-4 game.
