In yesterday’s game against the Bradenton Marauders, Mets top prospect Andres Gimenez hit his first home run of the season:

It was an impressive no-doubt home run to right. It was all the more impressive when you consider the homer was hit against Future’s Game veteran Luis Escobar, who MLB Pipeline ranks as the Pirates 12th best prospect. In his minor league career, Escobar has been stingy allowing just 0.5 homers per nine innings.

Speaking of Gimenez’s power hitting, he already has two doubles and a homer in four games this season. This puts him on a pace to easily surpass the four homers and 17 extra base hits he had in his first season playing stateside.

Seeking him play, it’s easy to overlook Gimenez is quite young for the Florida State League with him being all of 19 years old. That’s what makes his play and development all the more remarkable.
