The Double-A Binghmaton Rumbles Ponies had two pitchers combine for a no-hitter on Wednesday night in their 7-0 win over the Harrisburg Senators.

Starter Harol Gonzalez went 6.2 innings before reliever Ryder Ryan finished off the historic game with 2.1 innings of no-hit ball. The right-handers combined to face 28 batters. They struck out eight Senators (Washington Nationals’ Double-A affiliate), whom entered the night with a league-best 23-7 record.

The right-handed Gonzalez threw 91 pitches with 57 of them for strikes and walked two batters.

Gonzalez lowered his season ERA to 2.88 in 25 innings this year. In that span, he’s allowed only 16 hits, six walks, and struck out 30. The 24-year-old did it all on Wednesday night as he went 2-for-4 with two RBI at the plate.

Ryan, acquired from Indians for outfielder Jay Bruce in 2017, was perfect in his 2.1 innings of work. He has a 6.23 ERA on the season though most of that damage (16.62 ERA) has come when he was forced to be a spot starter twice already.

Braxton Lee, Ali Sanchez, and Gonzalez each had two hits for Binghamton. Dario Pizzano hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning.

It’s the first no-hitter by a Mets affiliate since the Columbia Fireflies threw one on April 9, 2016 in their first franchise win. The last no-hitter by Binghamton came in 2006 by Miguel Pinango. The Rumble Ponies were no-hit earlier in the 2019 season by the Portland Sea Dogs.
