The New York Mets have announced Mets pitcher Matt Harvey will make his second rehab start with the Brooklyn Cyclones tomorrow night.
Harvey is rehabbing from a stress reaction in his right shoulder. While he was being examined, doctors discovered Harvey’s muscles in his right shoulder had atrophied and were smaller than the ones in his non-throwing shoulder.
Harvey’s previous rehab outing, also for Brooklyn, was a one inning effort where he threw 18 pitches. During the outing, Harvey’s fastball was clocked in the low 90s. More importantly, Harvey reported he felt good after the outing.
After that outing, Harvey took time to sign autographs and take pictures with fans. For those interested in attending the game, it starts at 7:00 and gates open at 5:30.
Do we know how many innings/pitches he plans to throw tomorrow?
Since there is no need to rush him back, I would expect it to follow Spring Training protocol where they bump him up to two innings or 40 pitches.
Let’s start with this: he’s pitching on short rest. So they probably won’t be pushing him too much.
He’s not coming back tomorrow or next week, if thats what you’re looking for. After last Saturday, Warthen had said Harvey would need as least two or three more rehab starts So that gets him back to Citi Aug 25 at the very earliest.
