Well in a move that we all kind of saw coming, the Mets finally struck a deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates sending first baseman Ike Davis to the steel city for RHP Zack Thorton and a Player to be named later.  The move was announced before the lineups were exchanged Friday night.  Speculation started to rise with the delay and the question of what move was going to be made in order for Chris Young to be activated off of the disabled list.

Ike Davis who at times showed so much promise, lost the first base job out of spring training to Lucas Duda.  Manager Terry Collins made that decision early on, which essentially made Davis expendable.  On the season so far Davis was 5-for-24 with a double, a home run, and five RBI.

25-year old Zack Thorton was playing in Triple-A Indianapolis and in four games, he was 2-0 with an ERA of 1.23.  Drafted originally by the San Francisco Giants in the 43rd round in 2008 as a top junior college pitching prospect but didn’t sign.  He was selected again in 2010 by the Oakland Athletics in the 23rd round and was designated as a relief pitcher.  He has made only one start in his five professional seasons but has had some success going 20-9 with a 3.03 ERA.  According to sources he has a 3/4 delivery and throws in the low 90’s.

There is still a second player that will be added to this deal but it is unsure who it is at the current time.  It is tough to see Ike Davis go but a change of scenery and a new start for both sides can only be beneficial.  According to the Mets broadcast, the PTBNL is going to be more significant than Thorton.
