Bob Nightengale of The USA Today tweets that the Giants have signed former Met Jamie Callahan to a minor league deal with an invite to major league Spring Training.

While he made a brief cup of coffee with the Mets in 2017, he failed to impress and began 2018 with the Las Vegas 51s. After an injury-riddled campaign, Callahan was outrighted off the 40-man roster and became a free agent.

His 2018 season saw him throw 8.1 ineffective innings for the Las Vegas 51s before undergoing major shoulder surgery in June that knocked him out for the remainder of the year.

Callahan was acquired with Gerson Bautista and Stephen Nogosek as part of the package that sent Addison Reed to the Boston Red Sox in 2017. Nogosek remains the only player of the trio in the Mets organization.

After the trade, Callahan was immediately ranked by MLB Pipeline as one of the top 30 prospects in the Mets system. Callahan will end his Mets tenure with 5.04 ERA and a 1.68 WHIP in 25 innings across the major and minor league levels.

MMN wishes the best for Callahan.
