With the Mets promoting a number of players to the majors, it creates an opportunity for some other players to step up and prove themselves.  Las Vegas 51s left fielder Jayce Boyd is taking full advantage of the opportunities he is getting.

Over his past eight games, Boyd is hitting .533/.588/1.000 with eight runs, three doubles, a triple, three homers, 13 RBI, and a stolen base.  Over this eight game stretch, Boyd has had five multi-hit games including four three hit games.  He’s also had two separate four RBI games in this stretch.

This is the latest in the much improved play we have seen from him this season.  Last year, when Boyd was first called up to Triple-A he hit .254/.313/.333 in 56 games.  To begin this season, he hit .236/.321/.389 in April in May.  Since the beginning of June, something has clicked with Boyd.  Over the past 47 games, Boyd is hitting .336/.407/.618 with 11 doubles, one triple, eight homers, and 34 RBI.

Boyd, 26, was the Mets 2012 sixth round draft pick out of Florida State University.  This season he has split time between left field and DH.
