The Mets have promoted two young prospects, both whom have excelled in Low-A St. Lucie all year.

21-year-old Jaylen Palmer is the more notable of the two. MLB.com ranks the New York City native as the Mets’ 11th best prospect.

In 291 plate appearances, he hit .276/.378/.386 with a 113 wRC+. His walk rate was 13.4%, while his strikeout rate was 27.8%.

Palmer has also made good use of his speed, stealing 23 bases in 28 attempts.

He’s been used in a super-utility role for St. Lucie, logging 27 games at third base, 17 in center field, 11 at second base, and two in right field.

While he didn’t hit his first home run until July 20, Jacob Resnick noted on Twitter that Palmer’s seen a recent uptick in his power as of late.

The Mets won’t have to protect Palmer from the Rule 5 Draft until after the 2022 season.

As for the 21-year-old Jose Peroza, he put up a remarkable .274/.404/.442 line with a 135 wRC+ in 278 plate appearances. His walk rate was 14.7%, to go along with a strikeout rate of 24.1%.

Like Palmer, Peroza has spent significant time at more than multiple positions. He played 28 games at third base, 25 at second base, and six at first base.

Peroza is already eligible to be selected in the Rule 5 Draft.

In other news, the Mets announced they released infielder Anthony Walters. He was their third round pick of the 2020 draft.

Walters hit .156/.303/.229 in 132 plate appearances between St. Lucie and Brooklyn this year.
