John Lannan, a native of Long Island, debuted for the Mets on Saturday against the Marlins and it marked the lefty’s first game action since last Aug. 14 with the Phillies since undergoing surgery to repair a torn muscle that links the thigh to the knee in his left leg writes Adam Rubin of ESPN New York.

“I was just grateful to be back out there and feel pretty good,” Lannan tells Rubin.

Competing for the fifth spot in the rotation, he started the game and threw two innings, striking out three and only giving up a hit.  

Rubin adds that on Saturday, Lannan was reflecting on last season, when his left leg instability finally forced him to cut short his season and undergo Aug. 28 surgery to repair a 60 percent tear of what is known as the vastus medialis muscle just above the knee.

After signing a minor league deal with the Mets, he feels good to be pitching again.

“It’s feeling pretty good so far,” Lannan shares with Rubin.
