The St. Louis Cardinals beat the Mets 6-4 on Wednesday at Tradition Field. The loss dropped the Mets’ record to 5-7 this Spring.

John Lannan started and tossed four innings, giving up two runs, none earned, on three hits and struck out five batters. Nice outing for Lannan who retired the last eight batters in a row.

Kyle Farnsworth, still trying to land a spot on the Mets bullpen, pitched one inning, and gave up two runs on two hits, and didn’t record a strikeout.

Jeff Walters, hoping to land a spot in the Mets bullpen, came in the game in the bottom of the eighth inning and gave up a run on a wild pitch. He then settled in and calmly struck out Kolten Wong to end the inning and the Cardinals threat.

Bobby Parnell, pitching in only his second game of the spring, tossed one inning, striking out a batter.

Daniel Murphy returned to the lineup for the first time since injuring his right shin on Friday, and batted 0 for 2,

David Wright finally got in the hit column, singling to left field and finished the day, 1 for 3, and Curtis Granderson, was hitless at 0 for 3.

In the battle for who will play outfield, Eric Young Jr batted lead off and was 0 for 2, with a walk, Chris Young, in the five hole, went 1 for 3, with a double, and Juan Lagares was 1 for 2, with a run scored and two runs batted in.

Coming up: The Mets travel today to Space Coast Stadium in Viera, Fl to face the Washington Nationals, with the first pitch at 1:05 pm.
