Mike Vorkunov of the Star-Ledger writes that Juan Lagares received his MRI results on Wednesday and after talking to the trainer, said his recovery time should take about 1-2 weeks.

“I feel better now,” said Lagares.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis has already been re-called and has done a great job filling in on short notice, batting .333 (3 for 9) with a home run and four RBI’s in two games. While in Vegas, he was hitting .310 with two homers and eight RBIs in 42 at-bats.

The loss of Lagares is a major blow to the Mets as he was leading the team in many offensive categories including a .314 batting average and an .816 OPS.

As for Curtis Granderson, the news is much better. He told reporters that he is feeling good and that he will avoid the Disabled List. He made a brief appearance in Wednesday’s game in Arizona, pinch hitting for Dillon Gee and hit a sharp ground ball for an out.

Chris Young is scheduled to take his place in the outfield on Friday night in Queens, when the Mets host the Atlanta Braves.  In three rehab games in Las Vegas, he merely hit .667 (8 for 12), with seven runs scored, two doubles, two home runs, five RBI’s and a stolen base.  At one point, he was 7 for 7 with two INT walks.

The Mets should be back to a solid outfield by Friday night, and will have to wait another two more weeks before the outfield situation gets crowded again.
