Greeneville 7, Kingsport 3

The Kingsport Mets were one strike away from winning the series in last night’s game, but a nightmare ninth inning led to their downfall. I was sick to my stomach after the game because I was pretty attached to this team, honestly.

The K-Mets had a 1-0 lead after the first inning that they took into the sixth, where they added another run. Robert Whalen blanked Greeneville through six and had them at his mercy, cruising without much issue. He was touched up for two runs in the top of the seventh on his line, but don’t let that fool you. He was actually removed after surrendering a single and an RBI double, with the second runner scoring later off Ricardo Jacquez.

A sacrifice fly by Jeff McNeil gave the K-Mets the 3-2 advantage heading into the ninth, but it all fell apart with two outs when they couldn’t get that final strike.

It sucks to see it all end this way for them, but the Kingsport team put together a nice season and I’m very proud of all of them.
