On Monday, the Appalachian League announced the Players of the Week for August 20-26. Along with Rays’ pitching prospect Rodolfo Sanchez, Kingsport Mets’ outfielder and recent first-round draft pick Jarred Kelenic was given the honor.

Kelenic hit a scorching .579 over the week, recording 11 hits and multi-hit games in all five games he played in. Kelenic also recorded an RBI in every contest. He totaled 10 runs batted in for the week with a pair of home runs.

The 19-year-old Kelenic had struggled since his promotion to Kingsport, but saw his average jump from .214 after play concluded on August 19 to .256 after the week. The outfielder also boosted his OPS by more than .100 points this week, starting at .693 and finishing at .803.

Overall, Kelenic is slashing .290/.378/.481 across two levels in his first professional season with 15 stolen bases in 16 attempts.

It should be noted that Kelenic was withheld from the Kingsport lineup in their most recent two games, on August 25 and 26, for undisclosed reasons.

Kelenic was also named to MLB Pipeline’s Team of the Week.
