The New York Mets have already promoted 2018 first round pick Jarred Kelenic from the Gulf Coast League to the Kingsport.  While it is not unusual for the Mets to promote a high school player from the Gulf Coast League to Kingsport in their first professional season, the team is usually not this aggressive in making such a promotion.

However, the sixth overall pick played well enough to force this promotion.  Over his first 12 games, Kelenic is hitting .413/.451/.609 with two doubles, two triples, a homer, and nine RBI.  Additionally, Kelenic was a perfect 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts.

With Kelenic still being shy of his 19th birthday, he is still young for the Appalachian League. It should be interesting to see how he responds to the higher level of competition.  If the start to his professional career is any indication, he will continue to thrive and possibly even push the Mets to promote him to Brooklyn before the season is over.
