As reported by MMN‘s Jacob Resnick, New York Mets 2018 first round pick (sixth overall) OF Jarred Kelenic will begin his professional career with the GCL Mets, who will open their season on June 18th.

As a point of comparison, when Brandon Nimmo was drafted by the Mets as the 13th overall pick in 2011 draft, they had the then Wyoming high school outfielder begin his professional career with the GCL Mets.  He played there for seven games before being promoted to Kingsport.

Similarly, Dominic Smith, the 11th overall pick of the 2013 draft, began his professional career playing 48 games for the GCL Mets before being promoted to Kingsport.

Speaking of Kingsport, Mets 2017 second round pick Mark Vientos will begin his second professional season there.  Vientos, 18, played four games with Kingsport after the draft pick out of high school began his own professional career with the GCL Mets.

After being drafted, Vientos hit .262/.318/.398 with 14 doubles, four homers, and 26 RBI in 51 games while playing third base and shortstop.
