With Luis Rojas being named the Quality Control Coach on Mickey Callaway‘s staff, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies have hired former Pawtuckeet Red Sox Manager Kevin Boles as their next manager. After the Mets recently hired Allard Baird and Jarred Banner from the Red Sox, it should come as little surprise the organization went to the Red Sox organization to fulfill their managerial vacancy in Binghamton.

Boles has been a minor league manager since 2000, and he has spent the last four seasons as the manager for Pawtuckett. As the manager for Pawtuckett, he guided the team to a league championship. More than his record or championships, he has had a part in the development of many quality Major League players.

Notably, with the Red Sox, he managed Josh Reddick, Anthony Rizzo, Mookie Betts, Jackie Bradley, Xander Bogaerts. In his previous stops, he has managed players like Miguel Cabrera, Adrian Gonzalez, and Denard Span.

For his part, Boles is excited about the opportunity saying, “It is an honor to join the organization and I’m very excited to get started. We will do our best to develop championship-quality players for the New York Mets.”

It is something Boles was able to do in his previous spots, and he will certainly have the talent base to do it with exciting Mets prospects like Andres Gimenez, David Peterson, and Anthony Kay potentially slated to begin the season in Double-A. If Boles has the same impact on these prospects like the impact he had on prospects at other stops, the Mets player development system will be much better for this hire.
