Led By Duda And Nieuwenhuis, 51s Move Into First Place After 8-1 Win

Lucas Duda went 3-for-3 with two RBIs today for the Las Vegas 51s in an 8-1 victory against visiting New Orleans at Cashman Field.

Las Vegas (67-56) scored twice in the first inning on run-scoring doubles from Duda and Eric Campbell to take the lead for good, helping the 51s move into a first place tie in the Pacific Southern Division with Sacramento, which lost 2-1 today at Iowa.

Matt Fox was stellar in this one, firing seven shutout innings for Las Vegas en route to victory. Justin Hampson finished the game up, and saved D.J. Mitchell by coming in to strand the bases loaded.

Kirk Nieuwenhuis hit a solo home run for Las Vegas, finishing 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Campbell added two hits and two RBIs.

Las Vegas and New Orleans conclude their series at 7:05 p.m. Thursday. Friday, the 51s open a five-game series at Salt Lake.
