Lowell 2, Brooklyn 1

Seth Lugo, had one of his best performances of the season for the Cyclones, but it wasn’t enough to beat the Lowell Spinners on Tuesday, losing 2-1. Lugo tossed a season high seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out four.

The game was scoreless through four innings as both pitchers were showing their best stuff. Brooklyn got on the board first in the top of the fifth inning. James Roche hit a double to center field to start the inning for the Cyclones, and is now tied with Jared King for the team lead in doubles with ten. Colton Plaia then hit a single to right field that moved Roche over to third. Leadoff man Patrick Biondi drove in Roche with an RBI single to right field to put Brooklyn ahead, 1-0.

Lugo looked unhittable until the Spinners proved otherwise in the bottom of the sixth. Lowell shortstop Tzu-Wei Lin reached on an infield single to second base. Lugo got the next two batters out with Lin advancing to third before walking Aaron King putting runners on the corners. Kevin Mager hit a two run double down the left field line to give the Spinners the lead, 2-1, a lead they would not lose.

King finished 0-4 and ends his hitting streak at six games. Biondi, Juan Gamboa, andL.J. Mazzilli all chipped in with a hit at the top of the order, but Roche was the only Cyclone to have a multi-hit game, going 2-4.
