The final game of the 51s home stand began with Las Vegas starter Seth Lugo trading zeros with Sacramento’s righty Chris Stratton for four innings. Stratton seemed to have the advantage in the budding pitcher’s duel, striking out the side in the second on his way to five strikeouts in the first four frames only giving up three singles. Lugo actually had the first hit off of Stratton, with a single down the right field line in the bottom of the third.

Lugo got some help from his defense to keep the game scoreless in the third. After a double by second baseman Ramiro Pena, right fielder Ryan Lollis singled to left. Pena attempted to score, but he was cut down by left fielder Ty Kelly. Lugo did give up a solo home run to River Cats shortstop Hak-Ju Lee to open the fifth. But Vegas quickly got the run back in the bottom of the inning. Back to back singles by first baseman Eric Campbell and second baseman T.J. Rivera were followed by a walk to Kelly to load the bases. After a strikeout of Lugo, center fielder Roger Bernadina lifted a sacrifice fly to left, just deep enough for Campbell to score the tying run. Then shortstop Gavin Cecchini singled up the middle to plate Rivera and Kelly. It was Cecchini’s second hit in as many innings.

Vegas added on in the sixth. Right fielder Travis Taijeron doubled to center. Following a single by Campbell, Rivera drove in Taijeron, knocking Stratton out of the game. Kelly moved the runners over with a bunt. Then pinch hitter Dilson Herrera hit a soft  ground ball to new pitcher Phil McCormick who made the play to first, giving Campbell enough time to score. Bernadina came up next and doubled to center driving in the sixth run for Las Vegas.

With six solid innings in the books, Lugo gave way to Jeff Walters in the seventh. Walter gave up three consecutive singles, but his defense turned a double play, conceding one run, but getting Walters two much needed outs. A fly ball to center ended the threat.

Chase Bradford came in to start the eighth and pitched two scoreless to cap off the win and ensure a split of the series with Sacramento.

Top Performers:

Lugo pitched six innings of one-run ball to earn his first win of the season. Cecchini, Campbell and Rivera each had two hits, and Bernadina drove in two with a hit and a sac fly. Box Score

Injury Note: Dilson Herrera was limited to pinch hitting for the fourth straight game, he could return to the lineup soon though says Wally Backman.
