Luis Cessa Sharp Over Seven Frames In 7-2 Sand Gnats Win

Game three of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Greenville Drive was played in front of  3,098 fans Saturday at Grayson Stadium. Sand Gnats won 7-2 and will try to sweep the four game set this after in Savannah.

The Sand Gnats got off to a fast start, scoring four runs in the first inning. Second baseman Chad Zurcher led off with a single and went to third on a double by Brandon Nimmo. Jayce Boyd singled to plate the first run of the ballgame. Following that, Maiki De La Cruz doubled in to score two more runs, then Cole Frenzel capped the scoring with an RBI single of his own.

Greenville tried to mount a comeback, scoring a run in each the second and third inning against Luis Cessa. Howecver, the Sand Gnats got those runs right back, scoring two more in the sixth off a double from left fielder Greg Pron.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Boyd led things off with his sixth home run of the season,  a line drive that sailed over the left field fence. Boyd finished the night 3-for-4 with three runs scored. He raised his batting average to .356 on the season.

Luis Cessa performed well for Savannah; he pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on six hits, one walk, and eight strikeouts. Submarine style specialist, Tyler Vanderheiden, pitched the last two innings, allowing one hit, one walk, and three strikeouts.

The final game of this series, and the first half of the Sally League season starts Sunday at 2:05 pm at Grayson Stadium.
