Luis Rojas will be the first manager in Binghamton Rumble Ponies history, a source confirmed to Mets Minors. Pedro Lopez has been the Binghamton manager for the past five seasons, but he could be in line for a promotion to the vacant Las Vegas 51s managerial spot.

Rojas, 35, managed the St. Lucie Mets in 2016 to a 74-61 record and a playoff spot. It was his eleventh year overall coaching in the Mets minor leagues. Rojas is also the manager of the Leones del Escogido, who were the Dominican Winter League champions last offseason.

He was the manager of the Savannah Sand Gnats in 2013 when they won the South Atlantic League championship. He managed the Sand Gnats for three years and before that he managed the GCL Mets for a season. In six seasons as a Mets minor league manager he has gone 400-339.

The former minor leaguer (1999-2005) started coaching in the minors at age 25 in 2006 with the Washington Nationals. His first job in the Mets system was as a coach with the Dominican Summer League team back in 2007.
