Marcos Molina, the New York Mets’ eighth-best prospect in the organization, according to MLB Pipeline, will be promoted to Triple-A Las Vegas from Double-A Binghamton and get the starting nod on Sunday for the 51s, Betsy Helfand of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported last night.

The move will allow the Rumble Ponies to activate Gerson Bautista and gives Las Vegas a boost to their rotation, which recently lost Corey Oswalt to the major leagues, Mickey Jannis to Binghamton, and A.J. Griffin to release.

Molina has seen mixed results through his first two outings of the season. The 23-year-old started the Rumble Ponies’ fourth game of the season, but rainouts pushed his next appearance to over a week later. In 9.0 innings, Molina has struck out seven and walked three, while allowing six runs on 12 hits.

It remains to be seen whether this is a spot start or a permanent move—Vance Worley could join the 51s soon—but for the time being, Molina joins 40-man roster pitchers Jamie Callahan, Chris Flexen, Jacob Rhame, and Hansel Robles on the list of those that are just one call away from the major leagues.
