Matt den Dekker’s Two-Run Homer

Since completing his rehab and being assigned to the Las Vegas 51s, Matt den Dekker has struggled with the bat. Through his first 41 at-bats, the outfielder is hitting .171/.255/.390 with two home runs, four RBIs and 15 strikeouts.

He hit his first home run of the season on July 10th against Salt Lake, and it was an absolute bomb. It’s now our Featured Video on the right hand side of our page, but take a look at how he crushes this down and in fastball.

It looks like this homer is getting him on a bit of a roll now; he followed up that two-hit night with another multi-hit game last night against Tucson at Cashman Field. It was his second straight game with a home run, and he’s 4-for-9 with two home runs, four runs scored, and three RBIs during that span. He’s still striking out (four strikeouts in last two games), but he’s at least accompanying that with some hits.

I’m glad we’re starting to see Matt get into a groove; lots of times, it just takes one swing to get everything back in place and feel comfortable at the plate. By the look of the above swing, I’d start to feel more comfortable, too. Keep swinging, Matt!
