The Mets are expected to sign Dominican outfielder Alexander Ramirez on July 2, according to a Tuesday report from Ben Badler of Baseball America. Ramirez turned 16 on January 13 and will receive a seven-figure signing bonus.

The most recent measurements list Ramirez at around 6 feet 3 inches tall and 170 pounds, but it is likely that he has grown since then. Badler left one note that can be considered a scouting report, saying that Ramirez has “a lot of space to fill out as a potential power/speed threat from the right side.”

The Mets have succeeded with their international signings in recent years, most notably producing incumbent shortstop Amed Rosario (2012) and top prospects Andres Gimenez (2015) and Ronny Mauricio (2017). Going back even further, the team is still getting meaningful contributions from Juan Lagares (2006) and Jeurys Familia (2007).

The Mets gave a combined $4,150,000 to catcher Francisco Alvarez and outfielder Freddy Valdez last summer. Both players will make their professional debuts this season.
