As week two of spring training begins in Port St. Lucie, the New York Mets have made their first round of roster moves. On Tuesday night, the team announced that 19 players have been reassigned from big league camp.

Pitchers reassigned include right-handed pitchers Matt Allan, Oscar De La CruzRyley GilliamJ.T. GinnHarol GonzalezTrevor HildenbergerTylor MegillStephen NogosekMarcel RenteriaJared Robinson, and lefty Tom Windle.

Hildenberger is the biggest surprise here, he has six strikeouts in two scoreless innings this Spring. He signed a minor league deal during the offseason.

The position players reassigned include catchers Francisco AlvarezNick Meyer, and Hayden Senger; outfielders Pete Crow-Armstrong and Drew Ferguson; and infielders Brett BatyRonny Mauricio, and Mark Vientos.

The Mets also announced that they have optioned right-handed pitchers Franklyn Kilome and Sean Reid-Foley, and left-handed pitcher Thomas Szapucki to the Triple-A roster.

It was nice to see some of the younger guys get a shot to show what they can do in big league camp, but now it’s time to figure out the real position battles. After Tuesday’s round of roster moves, the Mets have 53 players left in major league camp with two and a half weeks remaining in spring training.
