Reno Aces @ Las Vegas 51s, 10:05pm EST

Zeke Spruill (1-1, 5.06 ERA) vs. Carlos Torres (3-3, 5.55 ERA)

Torres turned in his best start of the season in a victory against the Salt Lake Bees. The 31-year-old right-hander went seven innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits, no walks, and ten strikeouts. He didn’t allow a free pass for the first time this year, while the 10 whiffs matched his season-high. The last time he reached double digits was April 17th against Sacramento. Opponents are hitting .320 off Torres in his nine starts for Las Vegas this year, and he’s going to try and put together a solid start at Cashman field. He’s currently 1-3 with a 6.60 ERA in front of the home fans, and opponents are hitting .349 off him in his own backyard.

Altoona Curve @ Binghamton Mets, 6:35pm EST

Jameson Taillon (3-5, 2.91 ERA) vs. Mark Cohoon (3-2, 3.27 ERA)

Cohoon took the loss in his last start against the Rock Cats, but it wasn’t because of his performance. He went eight strong innings in New Britain, allowing one run on six hits, one walk, and seven strikeouts. This will be Cohoon’s sixth start after appearing four times as a reliever to start the season. The eight innings he lasted were easily his longest outing of the year, while his seven strikeouts were one off a season-high. His results as a reliever and starter are night and day. As a reliever, Cohoon went 1-2 with a 7.11 ERA in 6.1 innings pitched. As a starter, he’s been a whole new pitcher, compiling a 1-2 record with a 2.36 ERA in 26.2 innings pitched.

Jupiter Hammerheads @ St. Lucie Mets, 6:30pm EST

Jake Esch (0-2, 1.50 ERA) vs. Alex Panteliodis (1-1, 2.49 ERA)

Once Jupiter and St. Lucie finish their suspended game from yesterday, Panteliodis will take the mound for the Mets. He won his first game in Advanced-A in his last start against Dunedin. The left-hander threw 5.2 innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits, two walks, and four strikeouts. He’s set to make his second start at Tradition Field, where he hopes to continue holding the opponent to a .118 batting average. Now that St. Lucie is sitting through a rain delay for game one, Jenrry Mejia (0-0, 4.50 ERA) is a candidate to start the second game and continue his rehab, while Panteliodis could eat up the innings during the first game.

Savannah Sand Gnats @ Greenville Drive, 7:05pm EST

Robert Gsellman (2-1, 2.12 ERA) vs. TBD

Gsellman impressed with his best outing of the season for the Sand Gnats on May 23rd against Augusta. He threw seven innings and allowed one run on three hits, one walk, and three strikeouts. He’s shown he needs to rely on the location of his pitches to be successful, as he’s not a big strikeout pitcher (six K’s in 17 IP for SAV in ’13). Gsellman makes his second start on the road for Savannah in 2013, and is attempting to break into the win column away from Grayson Stadium (currently 0-1, 3.86 ERA). The opponent is hitting .429 off the righty so far this season when he’s pitching on the road.
