As of 9:00am EST today, here are today’s Mets minor league starting pitchers:
Las Vegas 51s @ Salt Lake Bees, 3:05pm EST
Jacob deGrom (4-2, 4.02 ERA) vs. Dontrelle Willis (1-0, 0.00 ERA)
deGrom has gotten himself back on track after getting hit hard toward the end of July and beginning of August. His last start came on August 13th against New Orleans. The Stetson University product got the no decision, allowing three runs on nine hits (one homer), one walk, and six strikeouts in 6.2 innings pitched. He’s lasted at least six innings in five of his last six starts, pitching into the seventh on three occasions.
New Britain Rock Cats @ Binghamton Mets, 6:35pm EST
DJ Baxendale (4-6, 5.61 ERA) vs. Erik Goeddel (9-5, 3.68 ERA)
Goeddel earned the no decision on August 13th against Reading, and is in search of his first win since July 21st, which just so happened to come against these same Rock Cats. The right-hander allowed four runs on eight hits, two walks, and four strikeouts in 5.2 innings pitched against the Fightin’ Phils. In 45 innings pitched at NYSEG Park this season, opposing hitters are batting .209 against him.
St. Lucie Mets @ Jupiter Hammerheads, 5:05pm EST
Michael Fulmer (2-2, 3.82 ERA) vs. Josh Hodges (4-5, 3.60 ERA)
Fulmer won his second straight start on August 12th against Palm Beach, and is starting to find his groove despite walking a lot of hitters. He allowed one run on two hits, four walks, and eight strikeouts in six innings pitched. It was the second time this season he’s walked four hitters in a start. Through his first 18.2 innings pitched with St. Lucie, he walked eight hitters, and has allowed free passes to the same amount in his last 12 frames.
Savannah Sand Gnats @ Augusta Green Jackets, 1:00pm EST
Tim Peterson (0-0, 5.79 ERA) vs. TBD
Savannah Sand Gnats @ Augusta Green Jackets, immediately after
Steven Matz (4-5, 2.46 ERA) vs. TBD
Yesterday’s doubleheader for Savannah was cancelled (again), and has forced them to have doubleheaders today and tomorrow. Peterson takes the hill in Game 1. He’ll be making his first start of the season. His last appearance came in relief on August 11th against Hickory. He allowed one hit, no walks, and no strikeouts in one inning pitched.
Matz takes the hill in Game 2. He lost his last start against Hickory on August 9th. He allowed one run on six hits, no walks, and nine strikeouts in five innings pitched. The Mets have been monitoring his innings closely; he threw 29 innings last season in Kingsport, and is up to 91.1 frames this season in Savannah.
Vermont Lake Monsters @ Brooklyn Cyclones, 5:00pm EST
Brent Powers (4-2, 2.35 ERA) vs. Robert Gsellman (2-2, 2.06 ERA)
A change in the rotation and weather has kept Gsellman off the mound since his August 7th start against Connecticut. He allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits, two walks, and four strikeouts in five innings pitched. While he’s 0-1 at home in two starts, he owns a 2.25 ERA and .189 opponent batting average in 12 innings pitched.
Burlington Royals @ Kingsport Mets, 6:00pm EST
The K-Mets start a series against the Royals at home tonight. The probable starters haven’t been announced.
OFF
As has been the trend with the GCL Mets, they rest on Sunday.
Every day Mets seem to have a couple of good arms going
I agree with you, Derek. It always makes the day interesting, that’s for sure!
