As of 9:00am EST today, here are today’s Mets minor league starting pitchers:
Fresno Grizzlies @ Las Vegas 51s 10:05pm EST
TBD vs. Chris Schwinden (6-9, 5.62 ERA)
After two straight wins, Schwinny had an uneven start against Salt Lake on August 16th. He earned the no decision, allowing three runs on eight hits, three walks, and six strikeouts in 5.2 innings pitched. Base runners have been the biggest issue for Schwinden this season in Las Vegas; in 131.1 innings pitched, he’s allowed 43 walks and 164 hits. That equals a 1.58 WHIP, 11.2 H/9, and 2.9 BB/9.
Bowie Baysox @ Binghamton Mets, 6:35pm EST
Tyler Wilson (7-2, 3.04 ERA) vs. Logan Verrett (10-6, 4.40 ERA)
Verrett hasn’t taken the mound since August 9th against Erie, and it wasn’t a great outing for the right-hander. He allowed six runs on seven hits (two home runs), one walk, and six strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched. It was his shortest start since July 4th against New Hampshire, and it was the most runs he’s given up in his last 10 starts.
St. Lucie Mets @ Palm Beach Cardinals, 5:05pm EST
St. Lucie Mets @ Palm Beach Cardinals, immediately after
Domingo Tapia (2-8, 4.81 ERA) vs. Kurt Heyer (5-4, 3.68 ERA)
The opener between these two teams was suspended last night in the middle of the fifth inning due to weather. They’ll pick up where they left off tonight, with St. Lucie leading 4-2. After that, Tapia will take the mound in the originally scheduled game, trying to get himself back on track before it’s too late and he has to wait until 2014. He last pitched on August 14th against Fort Myers, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits, three walks, and three strikeouts in five innings pitched. While he pitched better than he has lately, he’s still walking hitters at an incredible rate. He’s now allowed 52 free passes in 86 innings pitched this season.
Savannah Sand Gnats @ Kannapolis Intimidators, 7:05pm EST
Marcos Camarena (5-2, 2.66 ERA) vs. Jefferson Olacio (5-11, 4.81 ERA)
Camarena last took the mound on August 14th against Rome, earning his second loss of the season in Savannah. He allowed three runs on nine hits, one walk, and two strikeouts in 7.1 innings pitched. Despite losing the game, it was his longest start of the season since being inserted into the starting rotation. In 42.1 innings pitched (seven starts) as a starter, Camarena is 3-2 with a 2.98 ERA, eight walks, and 17 strikeouts.
Brooklyn Cyclones @ Staten Island Yankees, 7:00pm EST
Dawrin Frias (1-0, 4.15 ERA) vs. Caleb Smith (1-2, 2.21 ERA)
Frias performed well in his first start of the season on August 15th against Hudson Valley. He allowed two runs on three hits, no walks, and two strikeouts in six innings pitched. It will be interesting to see how he continues to fare in the rotation over his next couple of turns to take the ball. He’s only started three games since joining the organization in the DSL in 2009.

GCL Marlins @ GCL Mets, 12:00pm EST
