As of 9:00am EST today, here are today’s Mets minor league starting pitchers:
Las Vegas 51s @ Colorado Springs Sky Sox, 6:35pm EST
Chris Schwinden (6-9, 5.92 ERA) vs. TBD
Las Vegas 51s @ Colorado Springs Sky Sox, immediately after
Schwinden earned his second straight no decision on August 21st against Fresno. The right-hander got hit around pretty good, allowing seven runs on eight hits (one homer), two walks, and one strikeout in 4.2 innings pitched. It’s the most runs he’s allowed since July 21st against Reno when he gave up six runs. It’s also his shortest outing since July 31st against Nashville. Schwinden is 2-0 in 21.2 innings pitched in August, but he owns a 5.82 ERA during that time.
Binghamton Mets @ Bowie Baysox, 7:05pm EST
Syndergaard is pitching for the first time since he threw against August 16th against New Britain. He allowed just three hits, no walks, and 10 strikeouts in five shutout innings of work. Over his last 21 innings of work (four starts), Syndergaard has allowed eight hits, one run, two walks, and 26 strikeouts. Upon arriving in Binghamton, opponents are only hitting .202 off him.
Charlotte Stone Crabs @ St. Lucie Mets, 6:30pm EST
TBD vs. Domingo Tapia (2-9, 5.24 ERA)
Tapia’s 2013 struggles continued on August 21st against Palm Beach. He allowed six runs on five hits, five walks, and six strikeouts in 3.1 innings pitched. He’s walked at least three hitters in seven of his last 10 appearances, and has now allowed 57 free passes in 89.1 innings pitched this season. That, along with 81 hits allowed, equals a 1.55 WHIP. His H/9 is 8.2 and BB/9 is 5.7.
The Sand Gnats are off today, getting ready to head to Rome to take on the Braves. Marcos Camarena should be taking the mound.
Tri-City Valley Cats @ Brooklyn Cyclones, 7:00pm EST
The Cyclones return home to take on the Valley Cats at MCU Park. The probable starters haven’t been announced yet.
Kingsport Mets @ Pulaski Mariners, 7:00pm EST
Gonzalez took a no decision in his last start on August 19th against Burlington. He allowed five runs (four earned) on nine hits, two walks, and five strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched. Gonzalez has started eight ballgames for the K-Mets this season, but has lasted longer than the fifth inning just twice. He’s probably happy to be pitching on the road; he’s 2-1 with a 2.25 ERA as a visiting player, while he’s 1-3 with a 6.10 ERA in front of the home crowd.
GCL Mets @ GCL Cardinals, 12:00pm EST
The probable starters haven’t been announced for today’s GCL tilt.
