As of 9:00am EST today, here are today’s Mets minor league starting pitchers:
Las Vegas 51s @ Colorado Springs Sky Sox, 8:35pm EST
Carlos Alvarado (5-4, 3.21 ERA) vs. TBD
After losing four straight starts, Alvarado got back to his winning ways on August 22nd against Fresno. He allowed six hits, three walks, and six strikeouts in 7.2 shutout innings to get the victory for the 51s. August has certainly been his toughest month since joining the organization in June. Through June and July, Alvarado was 4-0 with an ERA south of 2.50. In August, he’s 1-4 with a 4.70 ERA, 13 walks, and 13 strikeouts in 23 innings pitched.
Binghamton Mets @ Bowie Baysox, 7:05pm EST
Logan Verrett (11-6, 4.37 ERA) vs. Tyler Wilson (7-3, 3.42 ERA)
Verrett takes the mound against Bowie for the second straight start. This time, it won’t be in the comfort of NYSEG Park, but on the road as a visiting pitcher. He last pitched on August 21st against the Baysox, allowing two runs on seven hits, two walks, and eight strikeouts in five innings pitched to earn his 11th win of the season. The right-hander is 2-0 through 14.2 innings pitched in August, but he owns a 6.14 ERA and .298 opponent batting average this month, both highs in 2013.
Charlotte Stone Crabs @ St. Lucie Mets, 6:30pm EST
TBD vs. Angel Cuan (7-3, 3.72 ERA)
Cuan is taking the mound for his second start in a row, and his 12th appearance as a starting pitcher this season. He last appeared on August 22nd against Palm Beach, allowing four runs on seven hits (one homer), two walks, and two strikeouts in getting his third loss of the season. While he owns a 1.89 ERA and .218 opponent batting average through 14 relief appearances in 2013 (33.1 IP), he has a 4.72 ERA and .288 opponent batting average in 61 innings of work as a starter.
Savannah Sand Gnats @ Rome Braves, 7:00pm EST
Marcos Camarena (5-2, 2.55 ERA) vs. TBD
Camarena last appeared in a game against Kannapolis on August 21st, taking the no decision. He allowed two runs (one earned) on eight hits, two walks, and four strikeouts in six innings pitched. He’s currently on a four-start winless streak, and hasn’t earned a victory since July 27th. In 29.1 innings pitched on the road, Camarena owns a 2.15 ERA, but will try to break into the win column, as he sports an 0-2 record away from Grayson Stadium.
Tri-City Valley Cats @ Brooklyn Cyclones, 7:00pm EST
Michael Feliz (3-2, 1.42 ERA) vs. Dawrin Frias (1-1, 4.84 ERA)
Frias takes the hill for the first time since he earned a loss on August 21st against Staten Island. He got hit hard, allowing five runs on seven hits (two home runs), three walks, and seven strikeouts. It was the first time he walked anyone since July 31st, and the last time he walked more than one hitter in an appearance came in his season debut on June 23rd.
