TBD vs. Rafael Montero (5-4, 3.28 ERA)

PCL League Scoreboard

Montero took his fourth loss in Triple-A on August 25th in Fresno, but he pitched well enough to get the win. He allowed two runs on six hits, one walk, and five strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched. The month of August has been his best with the 51s by far; he’s 3-1 with a 1.67 ERA in 32.1 innings pitched (five starts). He’s allowed five walks during that time, while striking out 29 hitters.

Deck McGuire (9-9, 4.96 ERA) vs. Darin Gorski (5-1, 2.01 ERA)

The most recent EL Pitcher of the Week takes the mound tonight at NYSEG Park. Gorski last appeared in a game on August 24th against Akron, and won his second straight decision. He allowed two runs on three hits, two walks, and seven strikeouts in 7.2 innings of work. While he was great before the All-Star break (2-0, 2.18 ERA in 20.2 IP), he’s been even better after it (3-1, 1.94 ERA in 51 IP).

Lara took his fifth loss since joining St. Lucie in High-A, which came on August 25th against Fort Myers. He allowed five runs on nine hits (one homer), one walk, and two strikeouts in five innings pitched. He’s in search of his first win since July 23rd. In 11 appearances (10 starts) since the All-Star break, Lara is 4-3 with a 4.37 ERA, allowing 18 walks and 40 strikeouts in 59.2 innings pitched.

Peterson took his second straight no-decision in his second start for the Sand Gnats, but got hit around on August 24th against West Virginia. He allowed three runs on four hits (two home runs), two walks, and two strikeouts in three innings pitched.

Matz takes the mound in Game 2 for his 21st start of the season. The southpaw won his last start, which also came on August 24th against the Power. He allowed one run on four hits, two walks, and seven strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched. He’s now eclipsed the 100 innings pitched mark (100.2 IP) for the first time in his career, following a season in which he only threw 29 frames.

Robert Gsellman (3-2, 1.60 ERA) vs. David Palladino (1-3, 4.80 ERA)

Gsellman is making his first start since his most dominant performance of the year, and being named the most recent NYPL Pitcher of the Week. He last threw against August 24th against Vermont, and he allowed two hits, one walk, and 13 strikeouts in eight shutout innings. He’s won three straight decisions, and is 2-0 in August with a 1.38 ERA and .184 opponent batting average in 26 innings pitched.

TBD vs. Persio Reyes (4-5, 4.40 ERA)

Reyes lost his second straight start on August 24th against Bluefield, and got hit hard again. After allowing five earned runs and 11 hits against Bristol, Reyes watched the Blue Jays score six runs on five hits, three walks, and eight strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched. Since his nine-inning complete game win on July 25th, he’s gone to the mound five times, coming away with a 1-4 record.
