As of 9:00am EST today, here are today’s Mets minor league starting pitchers:
Las Vegas 51s @ Memphis Cardinals, 8:05pm EST
Chris Schwinden (4-9, 5.94 ERA) vs. Tyler Lyons (6-1, 3.00 ERA)
Schwinden’s last start came on July 30th against Nashville, and he couldn’t complete five innings for the third straight time. He allowed two runs on six hits, two walks, and one strikeout in 4.2 innings pitched, getting the no decision. In his last 10 starts, his number of walks allowed have either matched or have been higher than his strikeout total on five occasions. He’s not really a strikeout pitcher (69 Ks in 113.2 IP), but that’s not usually a good sign. The opposition is hitting .313 off the right-hander this season.
OFF
The B-Mets get a day off before taking on Altoona for four games at home. The two will square off in a doubleheader tomorrow night at NYSEG Park.
Clearwater Threshers @ St. Lucie Mets, 6:30pm EST
Nick Hernandez (3-5, 5.28 ERA) vs. Domingo Tapia (2-7, 4.29 ERA)
Tapia has lost his last two starts, and isn’t able to get on a roll at all this season. His last start came on July 30th against Tampa. While it was the first time he’d gotten out of the second inning since July 9th, he allowed four runs on four hits, two walks, and five strikeouts in six innings pitched. The right-hander was able to harness his control a little bit, but has still walked 45 hitters in 79.2 innings pitched this season, which comes out to a 5.1 BB/9.
Charlotte River Dogs @ Savannah Sand Gnats, 7:05pm EST
The Sand Gnats welcome in the River Dogs for the start of a three-game set. The starters haven’t been announced yet.
OFF
The ‘Clones are off today, as they make their way back from a weekend series at Jamestown. They welcome the Connecticut Tigers to MCU Park tomorrow night at 7:05pm. Seth Lugo should be taking the mound.
