As of 9:00am EST today, here are today’s Mets minor league starting pitchers:
Las Vegas 51s @ Reno Aces, 10:05pm EST
Jacob deGrom (2-1, 3.03 ERA) vs. TBD
The 51s return from the All-Star break with a rested rotation, sending deGrom to the mound to start the second half of their PCL schedule. His last start came on July 9th against Salt Lake City, and the Stetson University product earned his second win since joining the 51s. He allowed two runs on eight hits, one walk, and four strikeouts in six innings pitched. He’s shown some consistency, throwing at least five innings in each of his five starts. Since walking four hitters in six innings on June 23rd, deGrom has walked three in the following 18 innings pitched (three starts).
Binghamton Mets @ New Britain Rock Cats, 7:05pm EST
Mark Cohoon (4-3, 4.96 ERA) vs. Nick Blackburn (0-1, 9.64 ERA)
Cohoon is taking the mound tonight following his longest outing since an eight-inning performance on May 23rd. He earned a no decision against Portland on July 12th, allowing five runs (four earned) on 13 hits, one walk, and two strikeouts in six innings pitched. The opposition hit .448 off him in that start. After struggling to a 7.11 ERA in 6.1 relief innings pitched, Cohoon performed very well in the rotation at first, but has since struggled. His ERA as a starter has crept up to 4.74 in 62.2 innings pitched, along with a .307 opponent batting average.
St. Lucie Mets @ Brevard County Manatees, 6:35pm EST
Matthew Bowman (5-2, 2.75 ERA) vs. Chad Pierce (5-3, 3.49 ERA)
Bowman takes the mound tonight following his fifth win of the season for St. Lucie against Charlotte on July 11th, but will be trying to harness his control. The right-hander allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits, five walks, and four strikeouts in five innings pitched. In his last two starts (10.2 innings pitched), Bowman has walked nine hitters. In his previous 58 innings pitched in High-A, he only walked 11 hitters.
Savannah Sand Gnats @ West Virginia Power, 7:05pm EST
Marcos Camarena (4-0, 1.50 ERA) vs. Clay Holmes (3-5, 4.59 ERA)
Camarena put together his second straight win in his July 10th start; it was his second starts since being inserted in the Sand Gnats starting rotation. He allowed eight hits, no walks, and struck out two in 6.1 shutout innings against Augusta. In his two appearances as a starter, Camarena is 2-0 with a 0.79 ERA in 11.1 innings of work.
Mahoning Valley Scrappers @ Brooklyn Cyclones, 7:00pm EST
TBD vs. Dario Alvarez (1-1, 4.91 ERA)
Alvarez broke into the win column his last time on the mound, which came on July 11th against Auburn. The left-hander allowed three runs on six hits, one walk, and one strikeout in five innings pitched. It was the longest he’s lasted in a game through his first four starts of 2013. He’s tallied 18.1 innings pitched, striking out 16 hitters, while walking seven others.
Danville Braves @ Kingsport Mets, 5:00pm EST
TBD vs. Yoan Gonzalez (1-2, 3.46 ERA)
Danville Braves @ Kingsport Mets, immediately after
With all these doubleheaders to play this week, Gonzalez re-enters the rotation after two straight outings in relief. In two innings of work on July 10th, he allowed four runs on four hits, but only one run was earned. He also walked two hitters and struck out five. In limited time against left-handed hitters, the southpaw pitcher is having a hard time getting them out; they’ve racked up a .308 opponent batting average.
The second starter hasn’t been announced yet, but it could be either Carlos Gomez (2-0, 0.00) or Corey Oswalt (0-1, 3.46).
GCL Cardinals @ GCL Mets, 12:00pm EST
The Mets face off against the Cardinals again in GCL play. The probable starters haven’t been announced.
Montero came on quickly, but he always had some buzz. deGrom?? He’s come on out of no where. He’s relative new to pitching as well. A little worried that he might not have enough different pitches to work through a lineup multiple times. But that’s ok, I’ve got him, Mejia, Familia, LeatherKKKKsich, and Edgin forming the youth crew to Brian Wilson and some lucky leftover from this year’s pen as the vets in next year’s pen.
