Sacramento River Cats @ Las Vegas 51s, immediately after

TBD vs. D.J. Mitchell (5-4, 7.52 ERA)

PCL League Scoreboard

Mitchell will only be starting his third game since June 22nd tonight against Sacramento, as his uneven performances in the starting rotation have landed him a spot in the Las Vegas bullpen. His last three appearances as a reliever have gone very well; the right-hander has tallied 5.2 innings, two earned runs, eight hits, no walks, and six strikeouts. His 7.84 ERA in 10.1 innings of relief are deceiving; outside of an awful appearance on July 1st against Fresno (six earned runs and six hits allowed in one inning pitched), he’s been reasonably effective.

Fred Lewis (0-4, 2.17 ERA) vs. Logan Verrett (9-5, 4.26 ERA)

Trenton Thunder @ Binghamton Mets, immediately after

Zach Nuding (5-10, 3.98 ERA) vs. TBD

EAS League Scoreboard

Verrett lost for the third time in his last four decisions on July 22nd against Reading. The right-hander allowed five runs (four earned) on nine hits (three homers), one walk, and five strikeouts in five innings pitched. The 2013 EAS All-Star has been experiencing some rough patches in his performance since going 4-0 with a 2.48 ERA in 32.2 April innings. His monthly ERA has climbed to the high-4.00s since then; it’s gone from a 4.99 mark in May, to 4.61 in June, and currently 5.40 in July.

St. Lucie Mets @ Lakeland Flying Tigers, 1:00pm EST

Michael Fulmer (0-1, 5.84 ERA) vs. Thomas Collier (1-2, 4.66 ERA)

FSL League Scoreboard

Fulmer is trying to get his season in High-A on track in his fourth start since joining St. Lucie. His last start came on July 21st against Dayton, and he earned his second straight no decision. The right-hander allowed four runs on four hits, three walks, and five strikeouts in 4.1 innings pitched. Opponents are only hitting .217 off him, but he’s allowed six walks in 12.1 innings.

A - sand gnats

Augusta Green Jackets @ Savannah Sand Gnats, 2:05pm EST

TBD vs. Julian Hilario (5-3, 3.23 ERA)

SAL League Scoreboard

Steven Matz was expected to make the start today for the Gnats, but Savannah is skipped him today in order to manage his innings. Hilario makes his first start of 2013, after making 29 relief appearances.

Brooklyn_Cyclones_(cap_insignia)

Hudson Valley Renegades @ Brooklyn Cyclones, 5:00pm EST

TBD vs. John Gant (1-2, 2.76 ERA)

NYPL League Scoreboard

Gant is still in search of his first win since earning a victory in his 2013 debut against Aberdeen on June 20th. He most recent start occurred on July 21st against Batavia; the right-hander allowed just one run on two hits, three walks, and one strikeout in five innings pitched. Like Matz, Gant has walked a few too many batters in his last three starts…10 in his last 16.2 innings pitched, to be exact.

lrg_Kingsport_Mets52

Kingsport Mets @ Bristol White Sox, 6:00pm EST

Robert Whalen (1-1, 1.34 ERA) vs. Scott Carroll (0-0, 1.50 ERA)

APP League Scoreboard

Whalen continues to impress in Kingsport, and it’s shocking to see he still only has one win to his credit. His last start on July 23rd against Elizabethton was his longest of 2013, and possibly his most complete, as well. He allowed three runs on six hits, no walks, and a season-high 10 strikeouts in 7.1 innings pitched. Through his first 33.2 innings pitched this season (six starts), Whalen has struck out 40, walked eight, and is holding opponents to a .176 batting average.
