Have a Happy Fourth of July, everyone! As of 9:00am EST today, here are today’s Mets minor league starting pitchers:
Las Vegas 51s @ Tucson Padres 10:05pm EST
Jacob deGrom (1-0, 0.96 ERA) vs. TBD
deGrom heads to the hill for his fourth start since being promoted to Las Vegas, and is coming off his first Triple-A win. He allowed one run on three hits, one walk, and four strikeouts in seven innings against Tacoma on June 29th. The right-hander was rumored to possibly be sent back to Binghamton because he was promoted to quickly, but his stellar play may keep him in the 51s rotation. In 18.2 innings pitched since being promoted, deGrom has allowed 14 hits and 7 walks, while striking out 14.
Binghamton Mets @ New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 7:05pm EST
Logan Verrett (8-4, 4.06 ERA) vs. Marcus Walden (5-8, 3.18 ERA)
Verrett takes the hill in hopes of snapping a personal two game losing streak tonight in New Hampshire. His last start came on June 29th against Trenton. The right-hander allowed four runs on six hits (one homer), no walks, and five strikeouts in 6.2 innings pitched. In his last two starts (14.1 innings pitched), the EAS All-Star has allowed nine runs on 12 hits (three homers), one walk, and 16 strikeouts. He owns a 4.42 ERA and .303 opponent batting average on the road, but is 5-1 in six road starts.
Jupiter Hammerheads @ St. Lucie Mets, 6:30pm EST
Jake Esch (1-4, 3.47 ERA) vs. Hansel Robles (3-2, 3.38 ERA)
Robles has been rehabbing with the GCL Mets, and will be making his first start for St. Lucie tonight since being hurt. He made two starts in the GCL, allowing six runs (five earned) on 12 hits, two walks, and five strikeouts in 10.2 innings pitched. Prior to getting injured, he threw 34.2 innings in the Florida State League, striking out 32 and walking 13, spanning seven starts.
Savannah Sand Gnats @ Greeneville Drive, 6:05pm EST
Matt Koch (5-3, 4.18 ERA) vs. TBD
Koch is coming off his longest start of the season (7.1 innings pitched), but didn’t get a decision despite shutting out Rome and allowing four hits, no walks, and five strikeouts. He’ll be taking the mound tonight for his 11th start of 2013, and he’s only walked two, while striking out 52, in 55 innings pitched. I’ll take that 26:1 K/BB ratio any day.
Brooklyn Cyclones @ Aberdeen Ironbirds, 7:05pm EST
Seth Lugo (1-0, 5.00 ERA) vs. TBD
Lugo last took the mound against Hudson Valley on June 28th. The right-hander allowed four runs on six hits, two walks, and three strikeouts in five innings pitched. Despite that uneven performance, he did earn his first win of the season. Lugo’s only other experience in professional baseball came in 2011 with Kingsport; he went 5-2 with a 3.66 ERA in 46.2 innings pitched.
Kingsport Mets @ Johnson City Cardinals, 3:00pm EST
TBD vs. Alexander Reyes (1-0, 2.16 ERA)
Tonight’s starter for Kingsport hasn’t been officially announced yet.
GCL Marlins @ GCL Mets, 10:00am EST
TBD vs. TBD
The starters for today’s tilt in Florida hasn’t been announced yet.
I´m confused. Robles is starting for the first time this year for St. Lucie, but prior to his injury he made 7 starts in the FSL????
Sorry for the mistake. Fixed it up.
What’s up with Fulmer?
He’s still on the GCL roster and haven’t heard anything otherwise about where he’s headed next. I would imagine it would only be another start or two at the absolute max before he heads to St. Lucie.
