As of 9:00am EST today, here are today’s Mets minor league starting pitchers:
Las Vegas 51s @ Salt Lake Bees 9:05pm EST
Jacob deGrom (1-1, 3.04 ERA) vs. TBD
deGrom took his first loss since being promoted to Triple-A on July 4th against Tucson. It was the first time in four starts he’d given up more than one earned run. The right-hander allowed six runs on eight hits (one homer), one walk, and six strikeouts in five innings pitched. Since walking six hitters in his first 11.2 innings pitched with the 51s, deGrom has pounded the strike zone with more consistency, only handing out two free passes in his most recent 12 innings.
OFF
The first place B-Mets are enjoying the EAS All-Star break. Five Binghamton players will be playing in the game tomorrow night in New Britain. The B-Mets will return to action on Thursday in Portland.
St. Lucie Mets @ Charlotte Stone Crabs, 6:30pm EST
Domingo Tapia (2-4, 3.76 ERA) vs. TBD
The starters for tonight’s game in Charlotte haven’t been announced yet, but I’m going to guess it’s Tapia. His last start was a no decision on July 3rd against Palm Beach. He threw 6.2 shutout innings, allowing two hits, four walks, and five strikeouts. It was the longest outing of Tapia’s season, but it was also the fifth time in 14 starts he’s walked at least three batters in a game. He’s only allowed 56 hits in 64.2 innings pitched, but the 34 free passes he’s handed out are the main culprit for his 1.39 WHIP.
Augusta GreenJackets @ Savannah Sand Gnats, 7:05pm EST
Joe Biagini (6-2, 4.06 ERA) vs. Gabriel Ynoa (9-3, 2.68 ERA)
The Sand Gnats haven’t officially announced their starter, but I’m going to guess it’s Ynoa since he hasn’t pitched in a week. The ace of Savannah’s pitching staff took his first loss since April against Hickory in his last start. He allowed four runs on seven hits (one homer), two walks, and six strikeouts. The last time Ynoa gave up more than three runs in a start was also against Hickory, on May 7th.
Lowell Spinners @ Brooklyn Cyclones, 11:00am EST
TBD vs. Carlos Valdez (0-0, 2.93 ERA)
Valdez takes the hill for the mid-morning game on getaway day. The right-hander earned his third straight no decision on July 3rd against Staten Island, but put together his best start of the young NYPL season. He allowed only three hits, one walk, and five strikeouts in six shutout innings, which were all season-bests. Opponents are hitting .279 off Valdez this season, but righties are hitting him at a .320 clip.
Greeneville Astros @ Kingsport Mets, 7:00pm EST
Christopher Lee (0-0. 3.38 ERA) vs. Robert Whalen (0-1, 1.26 ERA)
Whalen struggled in his one start following being named the Under the Radar Pitcher of the Week by MLB Depth Charts. The right-hander only allowed one run on two hits, but walked four and struck out three in three innings pitched. Prior to that start, he’d only walked one hitter in his first 11.1 innings pitched.
GCL Mets @ GCL Marlins, 12:00pm EST
TBD vs. TBD
The Mets have a one day break between doubleheaders this week, and face the Marlins today at noon. The probable starter hasn’t been announced.
