Tacoma Rainiers @ Las Vegas 51s, 10:05pm EST
Brian Sweeney (7-1, 3.51 ERA) vs. Collin McHugh (3-2, 2.74 ERA)
McHugh makes his first start in Triple-A since getting demoted over the weekend in favor of David Aardsma. He appeared in three games for New York (one start, two relief appearances) and struggled to a 0-1 record, 10.29 ERA, and 2.14 WHIP in seven innings pitched. He returns to Vegas, where he was performing very well prior to getting called up. In his last two starts for the 51s, he thrown 14 innings and allowed one run on 11 hits, two walks, and 10 strikeouts. He’s been dealing well with the tough pitching conditions of Cashman Field, as opponents are hitting .258 in 26.2 innings pitched.
Binghamton Mets @ Trenton Thunder, 7:00pm EST
Erik Goeddel (5-2, 4.40 ERA) vs. Matt Tracy (4-3, 5.22 ERA)
Goeddel is coming off his best start of the season on June 4th, which was also against Trenton. The right-hander went seven shutout innings and allowed two hits on one walk and four strikeouts. Since losing his first two starts to open up the season, Goeddel hasn’t lost in his last nine starts. That includes five wins and four no-decisions.
St. Lucie Mets @ Clearwater Threshers, 7:00pm EST
Alex Panteliodis (2-, 3.06 ERA) vs. Nick Hernandez (3-1, 4.05 ERA)
Panteliodis is coming off his second loss of the season, which came on June 4th against Lakeland. He pitched into the sixth inning for the third time in six starts, but allowed a season-high five runs and seven hits, while handing out two walks and two strikeouts. He’ll be making his fourth start away from Tradition Field, and is looking to build upon the 2.16 ERA, 13 strikeouts, and three walks in 16.2 innings pitched he’s compiled so far.
Asheville Tourists @ Savannah Sand Gnats, GM 1, 5:35pm EST
TBD vs. Gabriel Ynoa (7-2, 2.87 ERA)
Asheville Tourists @ Savannah Sand Gnats, GM 2, immediately after
TBD vs. Logan Taylor (0-1, 4.32 ERA)
The rain postponed Ynoa’s start last night, and he will take the mound today instead. He’ll try to win his seventh straight decision. The right-hander has been enjoying a solid first half of 2013, and hasn’t lost a decision since April 18th. His most recent start came on June 2nd against Kannapolis. Ynoa dominated in a complete game victory, allowing one run on five hits, no walks, and four strikeouts. In 62.2 innings pitched this season, Gabriel has recorded 54 strikeouts compared to nine walks.
Taylor is set to make his fifth start of the season, which follows his shortest outing of the year against Lexington on June 4th. He went 3.2 innings pitched and allowed two runs on two hits, one walk, and five strikeouts. His K/BB is superb at 6:1, but he’s allowed 20 hits in 16.2 innings pitched in 2013. Tonight’s start should play into his favor; he’s struggled during day games (6.75 ERA) and contests on the road (6.75). Luckily for him, he’ll try to get back on track by pitching at home (2.08 ERA) and at night (3.55 ERA).
