Colorado Springs Sky Sox @ Las Vegas 51s, 10:05pm EST
Jeff Manship (3-5, 5.80 ERA) vs. D.J. Mitchell (2-3, 8.12 ERA)
Mitchell is riding a personal two-game losing streak, and takes the mound at Cashman Field tonight, hoping to help Las Vegas earn a split of their four-game set. His last start was June 12th against Tacoma, and he struggled mightily. The right-hander gave up seven runs on seven hits, five walks, and four strikeouts in only four innings pitched. That performance followed a 1.2 inning showing on June 6th, also against Tacoma. In 37 innings pitched for the 51s this season, Mitchell has allowed 55 hits and 26 walks, compared to only 21 strikeouts.
The B-Mets get to enjoy their walk-off win for one more day, as they travel to Richmond to take on the Flying Squirrels. Jacob deGrom will kick off the three-game set for Binghamton tomorrow night at 6:35pm EST.
Charlotte Stone Crabs @ St. Lucie Mets, 6:30pm EST
Roberto Gomez (3-6, 5.98 ERA) vs. Matthew Bowman (3-0, 2.61 ERA)
Bowman takes the mound for the first time since earning a no decision on June 9th against Jupiter. The right-hander went six innings and allowed one run on six hits, three walks, and four strikeouts. It was the first time in Advanced-A that Bowman walked more than one batter in an appearance. He’s looking forward to pitching at home; he’s performed well at Tradition Field and on the road, but all three of his wins have come in front of the home fans.
The first half champs are enjoying their mid-season break. They pick things back up on Thursday at Lexington against the Legends.
Brooklyn Cyclones @ Staten Island Yankees, 7:00pm EST
Robert Gsellman (0-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. Giovany Gallegos (0-0, 0.00 ERA)
Gsellman has the honors of opening of the 2013 season for the Cyclones in Staten Island. He’s already made seven starts this season between St. Lucie and Savannah. Five of those appearances came with the Sand Gnats, and he compiled a 2-3 record with a 3.72 ERA, 14 strikeouts, and six walks in 29 innings pitched. He last pitched against Lexington on June 5th, getting the loss after allowing three runs on nine hits, one walk, and six strikeouts in six innings of work. Opposing Sally League batters hit .310 off him while he was a member of the Sand Gnats.
The FSL first half actually ends this week on wed night.
Well, they must mirror MLB since the All-Star game isn’t the official midway point of the season either. Thanks for pointing that out.
