The 51s are off tonight, as they travel to Tacoma to take on the Rainiers tomorrow. Chris Schwinden is expected to take the hill for Vegas.

Cory Mazzoni (3-2, 3.99 ERA) vs. Drake Britton (6-6, 3.74 ERA)

Yesterday’s matchup between Binghamton and Portland was suspended after two innings of play, and will be resumed today before the scheduled game starts at 7pm. Mazzoni is taking the mound in Game 2 for the B-Mets. His last appearance came on June 20th against Richmond, where he allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits, one walk, and eight strikeouts in the win. It was his first victory since he beat Portland on May 19th. In his last four starts (24.2 IP), Mazzoni has struck out 34 hitters, while walking six.

This will be Tapia’s second straight start against Palm Beach, with his previous one coming on June 20th. He allowed six runs, 11 hits, two walks, and six strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched. His last four starts have been on the road, and in six total away starts, he’s 0-2 with a 5.73 ERA, striking out 21, and walking 15 in 22 innings pitched. Opponents are hitting .307 off him. So, he’ll be excited to be pitching at Tradition Field, where he’s 2-2 with a 2.90 ERA, and an opponent batting average of .200 in 31 innings pitched.

Gabriel Ynoa (8-2, 2.77 ERA) vs. TBD

Ynoa last pitched in the first half finale for Savannah, leading the Sand Gnats to an 8-0 shutout. The right-hander threw five shutout innings, allowing three hits, no walks, and six strikeouts. He’ll look to improve upon his road record in his seventh start away from Grayson Stadium. He’s currently 3-2 with a 3.76 ERA, five walks, and 27 strikeouts in 38.1 innings pitched. Opponents are hitting .253 off him on the road, while they’re only hitting .174 against him at home.

Gant impressed in his first start of the season, throwing five shutout innings against Aberdeen on June 20th. He allowed three hits and two walks, while striking out six. He takes the mound tonight against Aberdeen once again, but will make his first start on the road in 2013.

Whalen takes the mound tonight in search of his first win of 2013 after taking the loss on June 21st against Johnson City. However, it was the defense that was the main reason for him losing. The right-hander allowed four runs (none earned) on four hits, one walk, and six strikeouts in 5.1 innings pitched.
