As of 9:00am EST this morning, here are today’s Mets minor league starting pitchers:
Las Vegas 51s @ Tacoma Rainiers, 10:00pm EST
Jacob deGrom (0-0, 0.77 ERA) vs. Erasmo Ramirez (2-2, 2.23 ERA)
There has been talk about possibly sending deGrom back to Double-A since the lack of starting pitchers in Vegas had the Mets move him to Triple-A a little too soon, but he could pitch himself into staying there. He earned his second-straight no decision on June 23rd against Salt Like, but he turned in a better performance than his Las Vegas debut. The righty threw six shutout innings, scattering three hits and four walks, while striking out seven. Through three different levels in the minors this season (St. Lucie, Binghamton, Vegas), deGrom is 3-5 with a 3.98 ERA in 83.2 innings pitched.
Trenton Thunder @ Binghamton Mets, GM 1, 5:05pm EST
Shane Greene (1-1, 6.30 ERA) vs. Logan Verrett (8-3, 3.97 ERA
Trention Thunder @ Binghamton Mets, GM 2, Immediately following
Mikey O’Brien (5-2, 3.42 ERA) vs. Mark Cohoon (3-3, 4.92 ERA)
Fresh off getting named to the Eastern League All-Star team, the league leader in wins takes the mound in Game 1 of today’s doubleheader at NYSEG Stadium. Verrett’s last start came against Erie, and he got the loss while throwing 7.2 innings, allowing five runs on six hits (two homers), one walk, and 11 strikeouts. It was the longest he’s lasted in a game since May 8th, and the most strikeouts he’s recorded in a start since May 20th.
Cohoon takes the mound for Game 2 tonight, trying for his first win since May 5th. His last start also came against Erie, on June 22nd. The left-hander went five innings, allowing three runs on six hits, two walks, and one strikeout. It was the second time in his last three starts he’s only struck out one hitter, and he hasn’t pitched more than five innings in his last four starts.
St. Lucie Mets @ Fort Myers Miracle, 6:05pm EST
Alex Panteliodis (2-2, 3.44 ERA) vs. TBD
Panteliodis took his third straight no decision on June 24th against Bradenton, and is looking for his first win in a month. In his start against the Marauders, the southpaw allowed four runs on eight hits, one walk, and three strikeouts in six innings pitched. Prior to his most recent appearance, Panteliodis had allowed at least two walks in each of his last five starts. He’ll be looking to end June on a high note, especially since it was his worst one of the season so far. He’s 0-1 with a 5.09 ERA in four June starts (23 innings pitched). He’s allowed 31 hits and seven walks, while striking out nine.
Rome Braves @ Savannah Sand Gnats, 6:05pm EST
TBD vs. Steven Matz (2-3, 2.57 ERA)
Matz turned in his second straight shutout performance, but doesn’t have a win to show for it. In fact, the southpaw hasn’t won a ballgame since May 9th against Rome. He’ll look to continue his recent production against those same Braves tonight at Grayson Stadium. In his last two starts, Matz has thrown 11.1 shutout innings, allowing four hits, five walks, and 19 strikeouts. That strikeout total is his highest amount over a two-start span this season. He’s struck out 37 hitters in 29.2 home innings pitched, while keeping opposing hitters at bay with a .211 batting average.
Hudson Valley Renegades @ Brooklyn Cyclones, 6:00pm EST
Aaron Griffin (1-0, 4.66 ERA) vs. Dario Alvarez (0-0, 2.08 ERA)
Alvarez gets his second chance against the Renegades, after getting the no decision back on June 23rd. The left-hander allowed one run on three hits, no walks, and five strikeouts in 4.1 innings pitched in his New York Penn League debut.
