Las Vegas 51s @ Tacoma Rainiers, 10:00pm EST
D.J. Mitchell (2-1, 6.61 ERA) vs. TBD
The starters for tonight’s series opener between the 51s and Rainiers haven’t officially been announced yet, but it will likely be Mitchell, facing his former organization. The right-hander earned his first win since April 29th his last time out, despite giving up plenty of base runners to Reno. In six innings pitched, he amazingly didn’t allow a run while giving up six hits and five walks, and striking out only one. His last two starts have spanned 8.2 innings, allowing four runs on 11 hits, six walks, and one strikeout. He did follow up his shortest outing of the year (2.2 IP on May 26th) with his longest of the year (6 IP on May 31st). So, let’s hope he keeps improving.
Trenton Thunder @ Binghamton Mets, 10:35am EST
Matt Tracy (4-3, 5.09 ERA) vs. Cory Mazzoni (2-1, 4.35 ERA)
Mazzoni didn’t get off to a great start on May 30th against Altoona, but settled down and eventually threw six innings while allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits, one walk, and nine strikeouts in the no decision. It was the fourth time in sixth starts the righty only handed out one free pass after walking a season-high four batters on the 30th. The nine punch outs are a season-high, which followed a season-low two strikeouts against Altoona. He’s pitched at least six innings in two of his last three starts, and will try to go deep into the game again tonight against the Thunder.
Lakeland Flying Tigers @ St. Lucie Mets, 6:30pm EST
Kyle Ryan (5-5, 3.57 ERA) vs. Domingo Tapia (2-4, 3.58 ERA)
Following his worst start of the season in his return from the disabled list on May 24th (0.1 IP, six runs, two hits, four walks, no strikeouts), Tapia bounced back on June 1st. The young hurler threw five innings, allowing one run on five hits, two walks, and four strikeouts. He will try to get his control, well, under control in tonight’s start. In his first six starts this season, Tapia walked 10 hitters, while striking out 24. Through his last three starts, the right-hander has walked nine hitters and struck out eight.
Lexington Legends @ Savannah Sand Gnats, 7:05pm EST
Bryan Brickhouse (4-3, 2.25 ERA) vs. Matt Koch (3-2, 4.91 ERA)
The one thing Matt Koch knows how to do is to throw the ball in the strike zone to challenge hitters. Through his first 40.1 innings pitched this season, the righty has allowed only one free pass to opposing hitters. Once he began starting ballgames, he went three starts before allowing his first walk of the season against Augusta. He’s re-started that streak, putting a goose egg in the “BB” column of his stat sheet in his last two starts. While that’s awesome, he’s allowed 49 hits on the season, but only 34 in 30.2 innings pitched as a starter. That’s an improvement on the 15 knocks he allowed in 9.2 innings as a reliever.
You guys should add links to the game/box score like Toby does. I have to go to his site to click on the game. Just an idea..
Thanks for the suggestion, and consider it done. Once the link for that becomes available, I will be sure to include it.
Thanks! You guys have a great site going! Keep up the good work!
I appreciate the compliment and you reading!
