Reno Aces @ Las Vegas 51s, 10:05pm EST

Garrett Mock (3-2, 5.27 ERA) vs. Chris Schwinden (2-5, 6.24 ERA)

Schwinden struggled in his last start against Salt Lake, throwing five innings and allowing six runs on eight hits (two homers), two walks, and three strikeouts. The right-hander has lost three straight decisions since earning his second win of the season back on April 20th. He’ll look to provide a little more length than he normally has this season; he’s reached the sixth inning only three times in his 10 starts. Pitching at Cashman Field has been a problem for Schwinden; he’s 0-3 with a 7.20 ERA in five starts. Most importantly, he’s walked 13 hitters in 25 innings pitched at home, compared to five free passes in 24 innings pitched on the road.

Altoona Curve @ Binghamton Mets, 10:35am EST

Stolmy Pimentel (2-3, 3.70 ERA) vs. Cory Mazzoni (2-1, 4.68 ERA)

Mazzoni is 1-0 in his last two starts, but they’ve been far from solid. Through these last two appearances, he’s thrown 11.1 innings and allowed 10 runs on 16 hits, five walks, and six strikeouts. He doesn’t profile to be the kind of pitcher to rack up a bunch of strikeouts, so he’ll need to be precise with his control on the corners of the plate. The four walks he allowed to Portland on May 24th were a season-high, while the two strikeouts matched a season-low (May 6th).

Jupiter Hammerheads @ St. Lucie Mets, 6:35pm EST

Nathan Eovaldi (0-1, 1.80 ERA) vs. Rainy Lara (0-0, 0.00 ERA)

Lara has been waiting eight days to bounce back from his 4.2 inning performance in Savannah, but he will finally make his first start since getting promoted to St. Lucie. The right-hander dominated the Sally League, going 4-2 with a 1.42 ERA with 51 strikeouts and six walks in 50.2 innings pitched. Before not getting through the fifth inning against Charleston in his last start, Lara threw at least seven innings in four straight starts. He’s also pitched into the sixth inning in seven of his eight appearances thus far in 2013.

Resumed from 5/3

Savannah Sand Gnats @ Kannapolis Intimidators, 7:05pm EST

Matthew Koch (3-2, 4.72 ERA) vs. TBD

The Sand Gnats are playing two today against the Intimidators, continuing a suspended game from May 3rd. Once they finish the first game, Matt Koch will take the mound for his sixth start of the year. His first three appearances in 2013 came as a reliever, and he struggled to a 1-1 record, 8.38 ERA, and .357 opponent batting average. Since he’s made the switch to starting, everything has clicked. The righty is 2-1 with a 3.28 ERA, .252 opponent batting average, 21 strikeouts, and one walk in 24.2 innings pitched. His last two starts were both against Augusta, which resulted in victories.
