Overall, the most accomplished of the aforementioned players was Reyes. Back in 2015, he was a two time Pitcher of the Week while pitching for the Savannah Sand Gnats. Unfortunately, since that point, he was not able to replicate his success. Still, it would not be out of the question for another team to sign him to a minor league deal this offseason.
It might be worth noting that the player released was Luis Alberto Mateo, who never got past rookie ball.
Luis Angel Mateo, who split the year between AA and AAA but was assigned to Kingsport at the end of the season, is still listed as a Met player (though, I believe, he is eligible for free agency this year).
Hard to see Scarlyn Reyes signing with an organization. He’s 27 and has struggled for two years in single-A. Even when he was moderately successful in Savannah, he was a 25 y.o. playing against players who were generally 3 or more years younger than him. What would another org do with him except use him as roster filler? Indy leagues would pay him more as a 5-year veteran than an organization would on a single-A contract.
I thought DeAza had some potential after he hit .300 in GCL, but when you repeat Kingsport and get less than 50 at bats the writing is on the wall.
I saw that Olivo was a starter at a few spots this year. That seemed surprising to me.
From what I have heard Reyes has been an asset with integration to the US for some of the youngsters. Possible he has some type of coaching career in his future
Hitters were basically non-hitters.
