The Columbia Fireflies are currently leading the Mets four full season affiliates with their average of 4.71 runs scored per game despite hitting only three homeruns in 14 games. While the St. Lucie Mets are the lowest scoring team with 3.57 runs per game but have hit three homers as a team too.
Who’s Hot
Roger Bernadina – Las Vegas 51s
The veteran outfielder has been the best hitter for Vegas in the early going with a .313/.425/.500 slash line. He also has a team high five stolen bases and has reached base safely in all nine of the games he has started. In 41 plate appearances he has walked seven times compared to seven strikeouts.
Vinny Siena – Columbia Fireflies
The infielder is making the hot list for the second straight week despite seeing his average slip over the past week. He is still hitting .293/.466/.415 with a league leading 15 walks. He has scored 12 runs for the Fireflies which is tied with teammate David Thompson and three others for the 2nd most in the South Atlantic League.
Joe Tuschak – Columbia Fireflies
Former 6th round has reached base safely in all ten games of the 2016 season and has knocked in one run in eight of them. He is hitting .303/.375/.528 with one of the only three homers the Fireflies have hit this season. The homerun happened to be the first one ever hit by a Fireflies player at Spirit Communications Park and just the eighth of his career.
Amed Rosario – St. Lucie Mets
Making it for the second straight week, the young shortstop is leading the Florida State League with four triples and is tied for third with 17 hits. His slash line is currently .288/.311/.492 and worked his first two walks of season in the last four games.
Tomas Nido – St. Lucie Mets
The recently turned 22-year old catcher is hitting .341/.378/.415 in 11 games to start his St. Lucie career. He has knocked in four runs, hit three doubles and has scored five runs. He has struck out only four times, which is tied for the fewest in the league with players that have at least 40 at bats.
Who’s Not
Dominic Smith – Binghamton Mets
He did hit his first homerun of the season and first in Double-A on Monday though he continues to struggle for the B-Mets, making this list for the second week in a row. In 11 games he is hitting .174/.204/.348 with 12 strikeouts compared to only two walks. He does have a team leading six RBI for the B-Mets who have scored an Eastern League low 44 runs this season.
Phillip Evans – St. Lucie Mets
Infielder that drew praise for his work in the spring training but has not carried it over to the regular, he is hitting .148/.258/.148. He has gone the first eight games of the 2016 season without an extra base hit and has hit into two double plays.
Ivan Wilson – Columbia Fireflies
Another returnee to the Who’s Not list as the young outfiedler continues to struggle to make contact, he has struck out 16 times in 12 games to start the season. He is hitting .182/.280/.273 and is just 1 for 13 with six strikeouts when hitting with runners in scoring position.
Johnny Monell – Las Vegas 51s
The veteran catcher has gone 8 for 36 (.222/.243/.278) in nine games to start the season after crushing the Pacific Coast League in 2015. He has walked once all year and is 2 for 16 away from Cashman Field.
Kevin Kaczmarski – Columbia Fireflies
The 2015 Appalachian League hitting champ has not fared as fell in the SAL going 8 for 48 (.167/.273/.271) in his first 13 games with the Fireflies. He has struck out 11 times and has been caught both times he tried to steal.
I could probably put the Binghamton Mets offense as a whole, as they have scored a league low 44 runs and have a .649 OPS which is the second worst in the Eastern League.
Monell batting cleanup everyday. Is it an algorithm thing or Wally being Wally wanting to get the L/R/L?
He is another L/R/L guy even if it means AAAA players hitting above real prospects.
More I see him manage the less I want him in the role within the organization
I 100% agree, I understand that some fans want the whole 86 connection thing but that doesn’t mean he will be a good manager.
There are other roles in the organization that he can have a positive impact on the kids. Roving fielding instructor, even as a bench coach somewhere, but development does not seem to be his forte
Exactly, I think he has things he does well but I would never want him as the Mets manager.
Just want to point out that the list and the stats should be for the week alone, not cumulative like y’all are should Smith and to a lesser extent Wilson.
Chose not to do a week because B-Mets and Vegas still haven’t played that many games. Next weeks list won’t be the cumulative stats but what they have done recently but not limited to just the last week.
